Care Instructions for Clothing, Bags & Shoes

Care Instructions

Care isn’t maintenance — it’s preservation. The right routine keeps shape, finish, and feel exactly as intended.

Before You Start

  • Always check the care notes on the product page or label first.
  • Spot test cleaners on a hidden area before full use.
  • Keep perfumes, deodorants, hair sprays, and sanitisers away from fabrics and finishes.
  • Air pieces after wear. Over-washing shortens life faster than time does.

Clothing Care

Different fabrics behave differently. Use the table below to match your garment to the right routine.

Fabric / Finish Best Cleaning Method Drying Iron / Steam Avoid
Satin / Silk Dry clean preferred. If hand washing is allowed: cold water, gentle detergent, minimal agitation. Lay flat on towel; reshape while damp. Steam from a distance or low iron inside-out with a pressing cloth. Heat, friction, harsh stain removers, and soaking.
Chiffon / Sheer Layers Dry clean preferred. If washable: hand wash cold, very gentle. Hang to dry (no clips on delicate edges). Steam only; avoid direct iron if possible. Twisting/wringing, heavy perfume contact.
Crepe Dry clean or gentle hand wash (if label allows). Hang to dry; smooth seams by hand. Steam is ideal; low iron inside-out if needed. High heat, aggressive brushing.
Linen / Linen-blend Cold, gentle wash or dry clean for structured pieces. Air dry; reshape and lay flat or hang. Medium iron while slightly damp for crisp finish. Over-drying, high heat tumble cycles.
Velvet Dry clean recommended. For light refresh: gentle steaming. Air out; do not compress in storage. Steam from the inside out; never press hard. Ironing flat, heavy pressure, water spots.
Knit / Spandex-blend Cold gentle wash; use a laundry bag if machine washing. Lay flat to dry to keep shape. Steam or low iron if needed. High heat, hanging heavy knits (can stretch).
Tailored / Structured (blazers, coats, corsetry) Dry clean recommended to protect the structure. Air out between wears; store on shaped hanger. Steam lightly; avoid saturating padding. Frequent washing, folding for long storage.

Quick Clothing Rules

  • Turn garments inside out before washing.
  • Close zippers, hooks, and buttons to prevent snags.
  • Use cool water and gentle cycles when machine washing is permitted.
  • Store structured pieces on padded or shaped hangers.

Bag Care

Bags keep their shape when they’re stored with intention. The goal: protect structure, surface, and hardware.

Material Everyday Care Cleaning Storage Avoid
Leather (smooth) Wipe with a soft dry cloth after use; keep away from rain. Damp cloth for light marks; use leather conditioner occasionally (spot test first). Stuff with tissue; store in dust bag, upright. Alcohol wipes, soaking, and direct sun for long periods.
Patent / Gloss finishes Wipe fingerprints with a microfiber cloth. Damp cloth; dry immediately. Dust bag; keep away from dyed fabrics to prevent transfer. Harsh solvents, friction against rough surfaces.
Suede / Nubuck Use a suede brush for nap; keep dry. Suede eraser/brush for marks; professional cleaning for stains. Dust bag; avoid compression. Water, oils, liquid cleaners.
Fabric / Canvas Brush off dust; protect from spills. Spot clean with mild soap and damp cloth; air dry. Store stuffed to maintain shape. Machine washing, heavy soaking.
Embellished / Beaded Handle gently; avoid rubbing against clothing. Dry cloth only; professional cleaning for serious marks. Store flat or supported; protect embellishments. Water, friction, and heavy weight inside the bag.

Shape Tip: Don’t store bags hanging by straps for long periods — it can stretch or warp the silhouette.

Shoe Care

Shoes last longer when they rest. Rotate wears, protect the sole, and keep the upper clean and dry.

Type / Material After-Wear Care Cleaning Storage Avoid
Leather heels/flats Wipe dust; let air out before storing. Damp cloth for marks; occasional leather conditioner (spot test). Shoe bag/box; add tissue to hold shape. Rain exposure, alcohol cleaners, direct heat.
Suede / Nubuck Brush lightly to lift nap; keep dry. Suede brush/eraser; professional cleaning for stains. Store away from light; avoid compression. Water, oils, liquid stain removers.
Patent / Gloss Wipe with microfiber cloth. Damp cloth; dry immediately. Separate storage to prevent scuffs and color transfer. Rough surfaces, solvent cleaners.
Embellished heels/party shoes Handle gently; avoid contact with rough floors/steps. Dry cloth only; spot clean carefully around details. Box storage; wrap to protect embellishments. Water, friction, heavy stacking.
Boots Wipe down; let fully dry if exposed to moisture. Material-specific cleaning; protect soles from grime. Store upright with inserts to prevent creasing. Folding shafts, drying near heaters.

Smart Longevity Habits

  • Rotate footwear to let materials recover between wears.
  • Keep pieces away from prolonged heat and humidity during storage.
  • Store shoes and bags in dust bags or boxes to reduce scuffs and fading.
  • For special-occasion pieces, refresh with airing and light steaming rather than frequent cleaning.
